Penelitian tentang dietary restraint (pembatasan makan) menunjukkan bahwa periode pembatasan yang ketat dapat memicu episode makan berlebihan ketika kontrol kognitif menurun.
Puasa bukan diet ekstrem, tetapi kondisi biologisnya serupa dalam hal restriksi energi sementara. Karena itu, penting menjaga pola pikir bahwa berbuka adalah proses pemulihan energi, bukan “hadiah” atau “pelampiasan”.
Pendekatan ini selaras dengan rekomendasi pengendalian berat badan jangka panjang yang menekankan konsistensi pola makan dan kesadaran diri sebagai faktor kunci regulasi asupan energi.
Saat berbuka puasa, tubuh memang memberi sinyal lapar yang kuat setelah berjam-jam tanpa asupan, tetapi sinyal tersebut bukan perintah untuk makan tanpa batas.
Dengan rehidrasi yang tepat, komposisi makanan yang cerdas, tidak makan terburu-buru, serta pendekatan mindful eating, makan berlebihan saat buka puasa bisa dicegah. Puasa yang dijalani dengan kesadaran akan memberi manfaat yang lebih utuh baik bagi spiritual maupun metabolisme dan kesehatan jangka panjang.
