Cara kaki menyentuh tanah (foot strike) dan posisi tubuh saat berlari sangat memengaruhi beban pada tumit.
Kesalahan umum:
Overstriding (langkah terlalu panjang).
Heel striking berlebihan tanpa kontrol.
Postur tubuh condong ke belakang.
Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola lari memengaruhi distribusi gaya benturan pada kaki.
Ketika teknik tidak optimal:
Perbaikan teknik sering kali lebih efektif daripada hanya mengganti sepatu atau mengurangi latihan.
Ada berbagai kemungkinan penyebab nyeri tumit saat lari, mulai dari peradangan jaringan hingga cedera tulang. Setiap penyebab punya mekanisme dan penanganan yang berbeda, sehingga mengenali sumbernya sangat penting. Perhatikan selalu sinyal dari tubuh, lalu sesuaikan latihan dan perbaiki faktor pendukung seperti sepatu dan teknik lari.
