Dalam jangka panjang, kurang tidur dapat menurunkan fungsi kekebalan dan meningkatkan risiko beberapa kondisi kesehatan, termasuk:

Begadang semalam sesekali (misalnya beberapa bulan sekali) kemungkinan tidak menimbulkan kerusakan jangka panjang. Namun, bila mulai sering, baik disengaja maupun tidak, sebaiknya konsultasi ke dokter.
Jika kamu terpaksa tetap terjaga (karena pekerjaan/darurat), dokter dapat memberi strategi yang lebih aman bagi kesehatan. Bila tidak, dokter bisa mencari penyebab keluhan dan membantu menata ulang jadwal tidur agar kembali teratur.
