Kalau fokusnya adalah pemulihan pasca-lari, jawabannya cenderung ice bath. Bukti ilmiah yang ada mendukung ice bath lebih banyak dibanding cold shower, terutama dalam mengurangi nyeri otot dan meningkatkan pemulihan setelah latihan berat. Namun, bukan berarti semua pelari harus rutin berendam air es.
Bagi sebagian besar pelari rekreasional, fondasi pemulihan tetaplah tidur cukup, asupan karbohidrat dan protein yang memadai, hidrasi yang baik, serta manajemen beban latihan. Tanpa itu semua, ice bath cuma pelengkap.
