Bukti paling kuat ada pada stretch mark sebagai jaringan parut. Perubahan struktur kaki serta keberadaan sel janin juga dapat bertahan lama, tetapi belum cukup bukti untuk memastikan bahwa keduanya selalu menetap seumur hidup.
Sementara itu, diastasis rekti, gangguan dasar panggul, serta perubahan bentuk payudara lebih tepat disebut dapat menetap. Berbeda tidak selalu berarti sakit, dan menetap tidak berarti tidak dapat ditangani.
Pemeriksaan diperlukan jika perubahan disertai urine atau feses yang bocor, tekanan atau benjolan pada vagina, nyeri saat berhubungan seksual, tonjolan perut yang mengganggu aktivitas, nyeri kaki berkepanjangan, atau benjolan dan perubahan kulit pada payudara.
