Kalau cuma membandingkan angka kolesterol, semua susu nabati memiliki 0 mg kolesterol, sementara di antara susu sapi, susu skim jumlah kolesterolnya paling sedikit.
Namun, itu tidak bisa dijadikan satu-satunya strategi untuk menjaga kesehatan jantung.
Pedoman AHA 2026 menekankan bahwa untuk kebanyakan orang, sebaiknya lebih perhatikan pola makan secara keseluruhan dan jumlah lemak jenuh, bukan cuma menghindari kolesterol dari makanan.
Karena itu, saat memilih susu, cek setidaknya empat hal ini:
Lemak jenuh, terutama jika LDL tinggi.
Protein, karena susu almon dan oat bisa jauh lebih rendah daripada susu sapi atau kedelai.
Gula tambahan, terutama pada produk berperisa.
Kalsium dan vitamin D, terutama jika mengganti susu sapi sepenuhnya dengan minuman nabati.
Studi tahun 2025 terhadap 219 produk menunjukkan hanya sekitar 70 persen alternatif susu nabati yang difortifikasi dengan kalsium sekaligus vitamin D, dan kandungan zat gizinya sangat bervariasi bahkan dalam kategori yang sama.
Tidak ada satu jenis susu yang otomatis paling sehat untuk semua orang. Susu skim menawarkan protein dan kalsium dengan lemak jenuh sangat rendah, susu kedelai yang difortifikasi paling mendekati profil nutrisi susu sapi di antara pilihan nabati, sementara susu almon dan oat dapat menjadi pilihan sesuai kebutuhan, tetapi label gizinya perlu diperiksa lebih teliti.
